Sam's is a great place to grab a bite if they aren't busy. I say that only because when they are busy, the food takes a long time to come out or comes rushed and incorrect. However, the staff couldn't be friendlier and you always feel like part of the family. This is definitely one of those places you go when you want home cooking and good conversation. We love the staff at Sam's and always feel welcome when we go.

After seeing some positive reviews, we stopped here for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon; it didn't appear to be a particularly busy Wednesday afternoon, yet we sat for quite a while waiting to order and what felt like an eternity for our food. I have prepared lunch for myself in the past, and I gotta tell ya, it doesn't take a half hour unless chasing down chickens is the start of the process. After glaciers shifted and the food arrived, it was decent 3-4 star quality food. Coming off a backpacking trip of a couple days, I would be fine paying an extra dollar or two for larger portions. My advice: just go to the Chic-Fil-A across the street.

Its a diner and the food is decent. Best of all it's cheap! Staff is great, I like to meet up there with people I haven't seen for awhile because they don't care if you sit for a couple hours and chat. Just a good ole down home kinda place.

What a hidden gem! We had the Hoo's Burger Platter, and it was perfect. This place has so much charm as a country-style diner. We enjoyed it. The food was terrific!

Best place for breakfast in Charlottesville. Food and coffee are good, but the service is superior. Waitresses are attentive and welcoming, which is why we eat here every weekend.
